Audi Q4 - from £30,000

The demand for crossovers is showing no signs of slowing down in 2019, with Audi planning to release the long-awaited Q4 model later this year. Combining the practicality of a hatchback with coveted SUV styling, the Q4 is set to enhance the compact luxury of the Q3 with a swept coupe-like roofline, a sporty rear bumper, angular headlights and a widened honeycomb grille. The Q4 is expected to have the same high-quality features and technology as earlier models, including a 9.2-inch infotainment system, active lane assist, adaptive cruise control and 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster.Sitting at the compact end of the Audi SUV range, the Q4 is predicted to feature four-wheel drive, an 8-speed automatic transmission and a choice of 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol and diesel engines across the range, as well as a plug-in hybrid and electric variant. Nissan’s trim levels start from the entry-level Visia and conclude with the range-topping Tekna, each offering alloy wheels, automatic emergency braking and air conditioning as standard.

A new range of engines is expected to be launched sometime around September along with the Juke, including economical petrol units and powerful diesels. There are also rumours of a hybrid model being released at some stage in the near future.

As the smallest SUV in the Volkswagen range, the T-Cross is longer, taller and more practical than the Polo it’s based on. Drivers can choose between three trim levels, with alloy wheels up to 17-inches, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep and parking assist on the options list, as well as a high-res Active Info Display that replaces the conventional dials behind the steering wheel.

Volvo S60 - from £27,000

Set to hit the market in late Spring, the Volvo S60 combines the generous storage space and plush interior of a premium saloon car with an understated, elegant design. The new model showcases Volvo’s forward-thinking attitude towards fuel, with no diesel engines available anywhere across the range. Instead, the S60 utilises the same 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine and plug-in hybrid setup that we’ve come to expect from Volvo, while the different three trim levels offer a choice of powertrains.

The S60 utilises a wide range of safety technologies, including the innovative City Safety collection of collision-avoidance systems. According to Volvo, the S60 is the first executive saloon car to utilise automatic emergency braking to avoid an impending collision, thanks to the semi-autonomous Pilot Assist lane-keeping tech that allows the car to automatically accelerate or brake in coordination with the traffic ahead.
